Gran Vía
The Gran Vía, or the "Great Road," is one of Madrid's most important urban areas. Built in three different segments from 1904 to 1929 by numerous designers with different ideas and directions, the road has weathered many changes and names. The road began as a connection between Calle de Alcalá and the Plaza de España, which then opened up the opportunity for the construction of many new buildings with the latest architectural styles. Today the Gran Vía is the busy home of shops, restaurants, hotels, large movie theaters, and world renowned architecture.
