Appian Way
Built in 312 BC by the Roman census Appius Claudius Caecus, the Appian Way is the oldest and most famous road built by the Romans. The 350 mile road was celebrated as the only connection to the seaports of southeastern Italy and thus Greece and the eastern Mediterranean. The complex construction of the Appian Way was a model for future Roman roads.
