Eiffel Tower
Originally built for the International Exhibition of Paris in 1889, the Eiffel Tower was once derided as a “hideous lamppost.”  In 1909, the tower was nearly disassembled.  Lucky for us, this beautiful emblem of Paris still stands.  On the 2nd or 3rd level of the tower, one can have an enchanting view of Paris at night.

Fun Facts

  • To this day, the Eiffel Tower has been completely repainted every 7 years. It takes 15 months to paint with 60 tons of paint to complete the job. Twenty five painters use only brushes to paint with the color "Tour Eiffel brown.” The eroding paint weighs an estimated 15 tons between new coats.
  • Inside the tower, Gustave Eiffel (the towers’ engineer) engraved seventy-two names of French scientists, engineers, and some other notable people, in recognition of their contributions.
